4pm  Carnival Blastoff – the excitement for the family and youngsters starts early this year!

  • Singing Competition – listen to the original and download the karaoke version to practice for the “Penang ~ Island of Love” singing competition!

6:30pm  Parade! Lots of interactive stuff for the audience to participate while watching the parade!

Greatest number of Yosakoi teams ever!!

DAI-GIF-NARUKO-CLAPPER-2We’re constantly trying to promote the concept of Yosakoi through our event, and we’re really pleased to announce that we’ll be having the most number of Yosakoi teams ever participating this year!

The general rule of Yosakoi is that you need to use the Naruko clappers to be considered Yosakoi.

Come to see the Yosakoi teams from Penang, KL, Kedah, Perlis and Pahang and then maybe think about starting your own Yosakoi team in preparation for next year’s event on March 11th 2017!!

 

 

 

Penang Yosakoi 2016!

This year’s Yosakoi will be our 3rd outing, and the timing couldn’t have been more significant.

To be held on March 12th 2016 (Saturday), it will coincide with the 5th Anniversary of the Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami in Japan that occured on March 11th 2011 that inspired us to hold this event.

This year, we’ve got some new attractions for you, which we hope will turn Yosakoi into an iconic event for Penang! Do keep posted!

 

 

WELCOME TO PENANG YOSAKOI PARADE OFFICIAL WEBSITE!

We are happy to annouce the 2nd Penang Yosakoi Parade, to be held on Saturday, March 1st 2014.

The inaugural event held this year was hugely successful for a first-time event, having attracted over 350 dancers and paraders, 70 stalls and 15,000 visitors during this one-day event held in the Esplanade and along Beach Street.

The theme of the event this year is FESTIVALS and will feature dances and attractions representing festivals of Japan, as well as some of Penangs famous festivals. The underlying theme is to showcase the cultural diversity, depth and breadth of festivals that are being celebrated on the streets, in both Japan and Penang.

We very much welcome your participation and look forward to hearing from you!

20143月1日(土曜日)第二回ペナンよさこいパレードを開催する運びとなりました。昨年度の第一回目は、パレード参加者350名以上、70軒の屋台、そして1万5000人以上の観客のご来場がありました。マレーシア国内大手の数社の新聞社にもイベント後も大々的とりあげられ、大きな反響をいただきました。本年度のテーマはお祭りです。

Reflections and Thank you!!!

The Penang Yosakoi Parade & Carnival has come and gone and by most accounts, it was a roaring success, thanks to the Co-organisers, Sponsors, Participants, helpers and the approx 15,000 people who took trouble to come all the way to see, feel and experience a Japanese Carnival event!

A very big “Thank you” to everyone who came to support and have fun on the day!

At this point, Id like to express my sincere appreciation to the team members of the Penang Yosakoi Parade Organising Committee who not only committed their time and effort, but literally sacrificed their sleep and family commitments, to only gain (more) white hairs and heartache to put this event on the Penang map.

We are literally a group of housewives (yes, its true but one of us does actually have a proper job and another is actually a guy! Haha!), who got together with this crazy dream to bring Yosakoi to Penang and to let everyone experience a Japanese carnival atmosphere here in Penang.

As the Organiser, we would be the first to admit that it was obviously not perfect, as there were many issues such as crowd control and lack of announcements that caused inconvenience and problems. These problems were not without reason and largely stem from lack of funds, which meant we had to rely a lot on voluntary contribution. But the nature of voluntary contributions is that it is very dependent on whims of the contributor, so while the voluntary spirit is there, things sometimes do not go as planned. While we acknowledge and appreciate their contribution, we hope to have your understanding and forgiveness for the shortcomings noted.

On the last note, we hope that the event has shown the people of Penang the concept of a Yosakoi night, and that this will inspire people to pledge their support early in the year so that we can indeed hold it again next year! From now till end April 2013, we are hoping to see Sponsors, Vendors, helpers coming forward so if you know of any one who would like to participate in Penang Yosakoi 2014, please get in touch!
