The Full Story

Festival Inspirasi Jepun - evening celebrations of all things inspired by the culture of Japan, but made uniquely Penang/Malaysia!

Yosakoi means 'come at night' in the Kochi dialect of Shikoku islands of southern Japan. Just as yosakoi in Japan was inspired by the Brazilian carnivale, Penang's Yosakoi concept is to draw inspiration from a fusion of Japanese and Malaysian cultures, making it a dazzling display of original choreography and costumes from many international and local teams in possibly the largest Yosakoi event outside of Japan!

Support your favourite school teams by watching and cheering as they vie for the prestigious title of National Yosakoi Champion! The top Malaysian teams then go on to be awarded the world's first and only Yosakoi award for excellence and Yosakoi spirit, the Penang International Yosakoi Awards.
