National Yosakoi Championship 2026 Registration

DATE:  Saturday, 27th June 2026 at Esplanade/ Padang Kota Lama, Penang

Registration Deadline:  30th April 2025 
Please register as early as you can so that we know that you're planning to join the event.
Where necessary, you may return to the form to submit your music or other required information.

This form is ONLY for Yosakoi teams from national, private and international schools in Malaysia.

Categories
1) There are TWO age categories this year. Each category will have its own category winners.

     a) Junior:  14-and-under*

     b) Senior:  20-and-under

 

* subject to a minimum of 4 teams participating in the new category. The organisers reserves the right to change the categories as it deems fit. 

 

Competition Criteria 

  • Categories are based on ages of competitors.  ie. 14-and-under means children born in year 2012 (14 years) , 2013 (13yo), 2014 (12yo) etc.  

  • There is no lower limit to the age categories, so a 14 year old can join the Senior 20-and-under category.  

  • There is a minimum of 4 members per team but there is no maximum number of dancers per team

  • Please fill in a separate form for each team entered.

  • This will be a purely Yosakoi Competition 

  • Yosakoi has THREE criteria for PYP26:  1) At least half the number of dancers must use the Naruko  2) Your music must incorporate either a phrase/ version of "Yosakoi Naruko Dancing", "Penang Sakura Ondo", "Soran Bushi" or "Penang Yozakura" to gain extra points. 3) Explanation of choreography concept.

  • Teams will be required to perform at least one PARADE Version and one STAGE version. 

  • Maximum length for the music for both versions is 5 minutes. 

  • ADDITIONAL Criteria for Stage Performances:  Teams will be required to submit a written explanation (in English) to describe the concept and or story of the choreography - this will need to be submitted in this registration. Teams will also be required to EXPLAIN the concept to the judges before the start of the performance (this is not a test of Japanese skills as you may explain in English) - time given = 1 minute. 

  • Flag-waving skills (not flag design) during the performances will be judged as part of the competition for 2026.

  • Individual Outstanding Performers will also be awarded for 2026.

  • PYP26 will require teams to perform the Stage version in the morning of 27th June from 9am onwards. Teams will be allocated time slot based which will be discussed with the teams. 

  • The evening will the Parade version only so that the teams have plenty of time to de-stress. 

  • Teams selected for PIYA awards will be announced in the afternoon - these teams will be required to dance once more on the STONE STAGE. 

  • Please note that the frequency and direction/ location of the dances are still subject to change by the organisers.  We will inform all registered teams of the final structure by EMAIL.

  • Details of the Competition criteria will be sent to all registered teams in due course. 

  • The organisers determines the sequence of team performances and have the discretion to change the schedule as and when it deems necessary. 

  • Registration deadline:  Wed 30th April 2026  9pm
